WASHINGTON (Nov. 7, 2016) – The R Street Institute welcomes Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf’s decision to sign S.B. 984 into law, at last legalizing ridesharing across the entire commonwealth. The following quote may be attributed to R Street Executive Director Andrew Moylan:

“This is heartening news for advocates of free markets and consumer choice. The debate over ridesharing in Pennsylvania – particularly in-and-around Philadelphia – had deteriorated to the point that cab-industry officials publicly compared ridesharing companies to the terrorist group ISIS. This hostility has created one of the most toxic regulatory environments for ridesharing in the entire nation. Welcoming innovative startups that shake up inefficient, entrenched interests will only benefit the thousands of Pennsylvanians who rely on ridesharing services personally, for commuting convenience and professionally, for supplementary income. Gov. Wolf, bill author Sen. Camera Bartolotta, R-Green and the rest of the bill’s advocates in the General Assembly are to be commended for getting this done.”
