Clean Slate campaigns across the states demonstrate the demand and need for automatic expungement as a solution to the endemic problem of past records and also serving as case studies that this policy can succeed. State campaigns are creating a roadmap for policy change and building the groundswell of support to drive that change upwards, to the federal level where no current system for expungement exists. In this session, we’ll discuss the current federal context in the 118th Congress and how work in states can help build demand and capacity for policy change in Congress and we’ll look at what key issues at the federal level will impact work in states.
