Testimony on Clean Slate legislation continued before the Michigan Senate Judiciary and Public Safety Committee on June 4, 2020. During this hearing, Safe & Just Michigan Executive Director John S. Cooper and one of our board members, Michigan State University Associate Professor of Criminal Justice Jennifer Cobbina, offered testimony in favor of the bills. Also speaking in favor of the legislation was Conservative notable Grover Norquist, founder of Americans for Tax Reform, and representatives from conservative groups like the R Street Institute, American Conservative Union and Americans for Prosperity. A crime survivor and member of Crime Survivors for Safety and Justice also explained why she supports Clean Slate.
