By no means is this story new, either. The #PermitPatty hashtag was born from an eight-year-old girl in San Francisco selling water bottles to people passing by on a hot day. A grown woman got upset about this, called the police, and, due to the eight-year-old girl’s lack of a permit, her water stand was shut down. It highlights the number of disgruntled people meddling in business that isn’t their own, is doing no harm, and is, predominantly, directed at black people.
