WASHINGTON (July 27, 2017) – The R Street Institute today announced the addition of Nicolas John as Northeast region manager, where he will be responsible for educating state and local lawmakers and executive-branch officials throughout the Northeast about R Street policy positions on harm reduction and a variety of other topics. He will also work to build broad coalition partnerships with other organizations to promote R Street messages.

“Nicolas completes R Street’s long-standing goal to have policy-impact across the United States,” said R Street President Eli Lehrer. “His background in state politics, and ability to reach across the aisle, will serve our organization well as we continue our tradition of common-sense policy promotion.”

Nicolas joined R Street in July 2017 from the office of Massachusetts state Rep. Stephen Kulik, D-Worthington, the vice chair of the Massachusetts House Committee on Ways and Means. Nicolas was Kulik’s chief of staff, working with legislators, state agencies and various interest groups to develop and implement the annual state budget.

Earlier in his career, he was legislative director to Massachusetts state Rep. Linda Dean Campbell, D-Methuen, where he assisted the representative in developing and implementing her policy portfolio and built relationships with relevant legislators, agency staff and interest groups.

Nicolas is a graduate, cum laude, of Northeastern University, where he earned a bachelor’s in political science and was a member of Pi Sigma Alpha, the national political science honor society. He lives in Boston.
