From AEI:

Europe’s political landscape is becoming much more challenging, as evidenced by the strong showing of populist parties in the recent European parliamentary elections and by the deepening Brexit crisis. This event examined how serious these challenges are to the European economic outlook and the economic policies that might be needed to meet these challenges.

On June 4, AEI hosted a panel to discuss the implications of populism and the challenges that Brexit poses to Europe. R Street’s Alex J. Pollock began by discussing whether the EU is progressing, the likelihood of policy reforms, the bank-government doom-loop, and differences between the American and EU systems of federalism. Vitor Gaspar of the International Monetary Fund discussed the euro area architecture, voter attitudes toward the national and European systems, and the benefits of EU membership.
