FERC to sunset 53 regulations under Trump executive order
“This minimizes disruption and risk within the industry, and, frankly, allows the commission to move forward and maybe act in more targeted ways,” Kent Chandler, former chair of the Kentucky Public Service Commission, said in an interview.
Notably, no significant regulations from the last 25 years are on the list, FERC watchers say. The draft notice of inquiry had listed regulations that are foundational to the modern energy system — including Orders 679, 888, 1000, 2000 and 2023 — as “covered” under Trump’s executive order and potentially subject to sunsetting.
“This is certainly a sigh of relief,” Chandler said. “I just don’t think there was any appetite for that at all, and I don’t think that there was any expectation that that would occur.”
