WASHINGTON (Nov. 13, 2019) – The R Street Institute announced today that Distinguished Senior Fellow Alex Pollock has accepted a new role within the U.S. Treasury Department as principal deputy director of the Office of Financial Research.

“Alex Pollock is one of the most well-respected and thoughtful scholars at R Street and in the financial policy world,” R Street President Eli Lehrer said in a statement. “His expertise and leadership will be missed, but we are always happy to see our experts move into leading public service roles. We are deeply grateful to Alex for his time at R Street and wish him well in his important new role at the U.S. Treasury.”

For his part, Pollock added, “I have really enjoyed my almost four years at the R Street Institute, with its energetic environment and the innovative leadership of Eli Lehrer. I greatly appreciate the chance it has given me to pursue my work on the nature and policy issues of financial systems. I wish R Street all continued success and look forward to many future exchanges of ideas.”

Pollock has been a distinguished senior fellow for R Street’s Finance, Insurance and Trade program since January 2016. He has also served on the CME Group Board of Directors since 2004. From 2004 to 2016 he served as a resident fellow for the American Enterprise Institute, and from 1991 to 2004 he worked as president and CEO of the Federal Home Loan Bank of Chicago. He is the author of Boom and Bust (2011) and Finance and Philosophy: Why We’re Always Surprised (2018).
