Sofia Lesmes is a research associate for R Street’s Cybersecurity and Emerging Threats team, working to advance a culture of cybersecurity in policy through supportive research focusing on data security, data privacy and global cybersecurity governance.

Before joining R Street, Sofia was the Security Council intern at the Permanent Observer Mission of the Holy See to the United Nations. Here, she covered peace and security issues ranging from cybersecurity governance to council meetings on Syria. She was also an editor for Strife at the King’s College London Department of War Studies, publishing pieces on the intersection between art and war while recruiting submissions concerning the theme of conflict.

Sofia graduated in 2019 from King’s College London with a B.A. in history and international relations, specializing in the history of ideas of race and human difference. She then acquired a technical accreditation in cybersecurity from Columbia University’s Fu School of Engineering in 2020.
