R Street’s third Real Solutions Summit marks a turn.

For the past two years, we’ve been reflecting on America’s first 250 years. Now it’s time to ask harder questions about the next 250.

Trust in government has reached historic lows. The competence of public institutions is under fire. Too much of the left reimagines government capacity untethered from the principles that make limited government worth defending. Too much of the right defaults to anti-government rhetoric without a constructive alternative.

What’s missing is a principled, practical answer to a deceptively simple question: what should government do — and what does it take to do it well?

Since our founding, R Street has advanced two connected ideas: that limited, effective government is the foundation of American liberal democracy — and that the way we work, grounded in credibility, honest conflict, and collaboration, models the kind of self-governance we champion.

The 2027 Real Solutions Summit is a chance to put both of those ideas into practice — bringing together a broad tent of voices to reason across differences and reimagine American liberal democracy for the century ahead.
