About Jarrett
Jarrett Dieterle is a resident senior fellow at the R Street Institute, where he researches and writes on food and beverage policy, labor policy, occupational licensing, and other regulatory issues.
Jarrett has written about various public policy topics for The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, USA Today, The Washington Post, National Affairs and many other outlets. He is also the author of Give Me Liberty and Give Me a Drink! as well as the host of The Right to Drink limited-run podcast series.
Jarrett previously worked as a regulatory attorney at a Washington, D.C. law firm. In that role, he advised private companies on how to navigate complex regulatory regimes and helped them challenge overreaching regulations. He also practiced appellate advocacy, co-authoring several Supreme Court amicus briefs. He previously clerked for a federal judge on the U.S. Court of Federal Claims, and has worked and written for numerous policy organizations and think tanks such as the Manhattan Institute, Mackinac Center, Federalist Society, and Institute for Justice.
Jarrett earned his bachelor’s from the University of Richmond, with a major in political science and minor in economics. He received his JD from Georgetown University Law Center.
Jarrett currently lives in Richmond, Virginia with his wife, Maria, and their Australian shepherd mix, Pepper.
