About Brent

Brent M. Eastwood is a fellow for the Technology and Innovation team. Prior to R Street, he served as the defense technology editor and columnist for 19FortyFive, a web magazine based in Washington, D.C. Before that, he was a staffer for Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.).

Brent has founded, led or worked for technology startups in artificial intelligence, fintech, biometrics, digital media and intelligence analysis. He has taught at American University, George Washington University and George Mason University.

Brent has published three books on topics such as defense technology, streaming video and economic freedom.

Brent is also a former U.S. Army officer.

He has a PhD in political science, master’s degrees in international relations and journalism, and a bachelor’s degree in English.

Brent lives with his wife, son and a Persian cat in Arlington, Virginia.
