Overview

A new administration and Congress signal the possibility of a new direction for tech policy. If that proves to be the case, then history may record 2024 as the high-water mark for the “techlash” phenomenon of recent years. But as we push forward, it is worth pausing to reflect on some of the past year’s worst tech policies that served as exemplars of their era. They included legislative and regulatory proposals, enforcement actions, and broader policy agendas on issues ranging from AI to antitrust—all born of animus and fear, not just of large technology companies, but of technological innovation itself.

Please join ITIF for a virtual panel discussion with technology policy experts who will highlight and critique the most counterproductive tech policies of the past year, and consider how the incoming administration and Congress can turn the page.
