R Street welcomes Brandon Pugh as new director of Cybersecurity and Emerging Threats team
WASHINGTON (Jan. 4, 2022) — This week the R Street Institute welcomed Brandon Pugh as policy director for our Cybersecurity and Emerging Threats team. He was previously a senior fellow on the same team.
In this role, Pugh will spearhead public policy strategy for the department with a focus on data security and data privacy at the federal and state levels, emerging cyber and national security threats, cyber impacts on the private sector and workforce diversity in cybersecurity, among other pressing public policy concerns in the space.
Vice President Monica Tencate said, “I am thrilled to have Brandon on board as policy director for our Cybersecurity and Emerging Threats program. He brings tremendous expertise and leadership that is incredibly valuable to this team and the organization as a whole.”
Pugh added, “I am excited to be the new director of the Cybersecurity and Emerging Threats team at R Street after serving as a senior fellow and policy counsel. The team has done incredible work on a range of cybersecurity and data privacy and security topics, and I am looking forward to growing the team and further strengthening its reputation.”
Previously, Pugh was legislative counsel for the New Jersey General Assembly Minority Office, where he handled nearly all policy and legislation on cybersecurity, emerging technology and privacy for the office. He also served as a fellow with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, as the managing editor of the Journal of Law and Cyber Warfare, the president and CEO of a homeland security advisory company, a board member on the Rutgers University Cybersecurity Program Board, and an elected and appointed official at the local, county and state level.
