Knock, Knock—Who’s There? Booze Delivery During the Pandemic and Beyond
WASHINGTON (Nov. 30, 2020)—Since the COVID-19 pandemic began, alcohol delivery and shipping have increased exponentially under the authority of emergency powers at the state level. But these changes are temporary and already facing some pushback from entrenched interests.
In a new policy paper, R Street senior fellow of commercial freedom Jarrett Dieterle and attorney Teri Quimby make the case for permanent alcohol delivery and shipping reform and discuss why objections to doing so are not convincing.
“As policymakers and government officials seek to update laws during—and even after—the COVID-19 pandemic, they will be increasingly forced to grapple with America’s outdated system of alcohol laws. At a time when Americans are seeking to socially distance and avoid public places, rational, safe systems for alcohol delivery and shipping are more important than ever,” says Dieterle.
