WASHINGTON, DC (Aug. 26, 2019) – Longtime Congressional aide Dean Peterson has joined free-market think tank the R Street Institute to head up its federal relations, state government affairs and communications efforts.

“We are very pleased to welcome Dean to the R Street team,” said Eli Lehrer, president of R Street. “He brings a wide breadth of proven experience and the same spirit of creativity, energy, vision and innovation that animates our organization.”

Peterson was most recently chief of staff for former U.S. Rep. Randy Hultgren (R-Ill.). Prior to that, he spent eight years as head of the communications and advocacy efforts of the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation, the leading nonprofit addiction treatment provider. He spent nearly 17 years as chief aide to retired Congressman Jim Ramstad (R-Minn.), and served in a variety of other policy and political posts, including with the U.S. Small Business Administration, two other members of Congress and the National Republican Senate Committee.

“I am excited to work for such a cutting-edge organization, which provides impactful solutions to complex and pressing problems facing our society and government institutions” said Peterson. “The fact that R Street offers these policy solutions in a pragmatic, imaginative and winsome way that seeks to earn bipartisan consensus is clearly needed right now, and I am very grateful for the opportunity.”

R Street was founded in 2012 and is a nonprofit, nonpartisan public policy research organization with the mission to engage in policy research and outreach to promote free markets and limited, effective government. In addition to its D.C. headquarters, it has offices in Georgia, Texas, Ohio, California and Massachusetts.

Peterson can be reached at 202-900-8266 or [email protected].
