Bryson Bort Joins the R Street Institute as National Security and Cybersecurity Senior Fellow
In this role, Bort will provide expert technical and policy expertise to the pragmatic, center-right think tank.
“Bryson brings a unique and invaluable set of skills to the National Security and Cybersecurity team,” said R Street National Security and Cybersecurity Director Jim Baker. “His real-world experience and deep understanding of threats and opportunities in the cyber arena will be an excellent complement to our policy work. We look forward to working closely with him.”
Outside of his role with R Street, Bort is an advisor to the Army Cyber Institute. Previously, he founded SCYTHE, a startup building a next-generation attack emulation platform; and GRIMM, a boutique cybersecurity consultancy. He is the co-founder of the ICS Village, a nonprofit advancing awareness of industrial control system security. As a U.S. Army officer, he served as a battle captain and brigade engineering officer in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom before leaving the Army as a captain.
Bryson received his bachelor’s degree in computer science with honors from the United States Military Academy at West Point. He also holds a master’s degree in telecommunications management from the University of Maryland, a master’s in business administration from the University of Florida and a degree in electrical engineering and computer science from the University of Texas.
R Street was founded in 2012 as a nonprofit, nonpartisan public policy research organization with the mission to engage in research and outreach to promote free markets and limited, effective government. In addition to its D.C. headquarters, it has offices in Georgia, Texas, Ohio and California.
