Green Scissors Coalition letter to new members of the US House of Representatives
Dear Member:
We, the member organizations of the Green Scissors coalition, congratulate you on your election to the United States House of Representatives.
Founded in 1994, the Green Scissors campaign identifies spending areas that are both environmentally harmful and fiscally wasteful in order to protect public health and the environment, reduce growth in government spending, and lower the budget deficit and national debt. The Green Scissors coalition is made up of free-market, environmental, and budget groups with different views about the proper scope, size, and functions of government. Despite these differences, we can come together towards the common goal of eliminating programs, tax expenditures, and policies of the federal government that harm both taxpayers and the environment.
As you begin the new term, we would like to introduce you to the member organizations of the Green Scissors coalition – Friends of the Earth, Taxpayers for Common Sense, and the R Street Institute. Pursuant to our goal of eliminating environmentally harmful and fiscally wasteful federal spending, we have identified more than 70 federal policies and programs we believe should be cut or eliminated. We encourage you and your staff to visit www.greenscissors.com to see our complete database of cuts, totaling over $250 billion in savings for taxpayers.
To learn more about any of the programs or policies we have included in our database, or about what you can do to protect both taxpayers and the environment, please contact us or Lukas Ross, Friends of the Earth,lross@foe.org; Autumn Hanna, Taxpayers for Common Sense, autumn@taxpayer.net; Lori Sanders, R Street Institute at lsanders@rstreet.org.
Sincerely,
Erich Pica, President, Friends of the Earth
Ryan Alexander, President, Taxpayers for Common Sense
Eli Lehrer, President, R Street Institute
