Advocacy groups expressed concern about how quickly the FEC adopted the rule after announcing the push last month, and said there should have been more time for public input on the latest changes, unveiled this week.
“There’s just very little clarity on what actually will be covered,” said Jonathan Bydlak, governance program director at the R Street Institute think tank. “In either version, no one really knows where that line is going to be drawn.”
