CHATTANOOGA, TN —  The Millennial Debt Commission, made up of 20 millennial business leaders being advised by members of the U.S. House and Senate, will continue to work toward its recommendations on addressing the nation’s unsustainable fiscal trajectory when it holds its third public meeting at 2 p.m. EST on March 30.

Senator Angus King (I-ME) and Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) will headline the meeting. They will be joined by Congressman Dean Phillips (D-MN) and freshmen Congressmen Blake Moore (R-UT) and Peter Meijer (R-MI). Millennial Debt Foundation (MDF) Founder Weston Wamp will convene the virtual meeting and moderate discussions with the elected leaders. Additionally, R Street Institute’s Head of Governance Jonathan Bydlak will lead a 45-minute session focused on the federal budget reform process. R Street is co-sponsoring the meeting with MDF.

“Budget process reform represents an opportunity for bipartisan consensus that would be a first step towards fiscal stewardship in Washington,” said Wamp, who founded MDF in 2019. “On the heels of unprecedented emergency deficit spending, millennial business leaders are rightly concerned about whether Congress understands the generational consequences at stake.”

“There is no priority more important than fixing the way the federal government spends money,” said Bydlak. “We’ve seen over the last year how a precarious fiscal position can make it more difficult to respond to unforeseen emergencies. I applaud the Millennial Debt Foundation for tackling these issues head on and helping lead a public discussion on how to right our fiscal ship.”

Throughout 2020, meetings of the commission featured Senators Marco Rubio, Joe Manchin, Tim Scott, Joni Ernst, Mike Lee, Ron Johnson, and former Senators Bob Corker, Tom Daschle and Jim DeMint, as well as millennial members of Congress Representatives Dan Crenshaw, Mike Gallagher, Bryan Steil and William Timmons, who are all honorary advisors to the commission.

MDF launched its regional Stewardship Series events in Austin, TX, on Jan. 29 with three panels of leading Texas fiscal conservatives, including Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush, Congressman Dan Crenshaw and Congressman Chip Roy.

On March 11 in Nashville, Tennessee Governor Bill Lee and former governors Bill Haslam and Phil Bredesen headlined the second Stewardship Series event calling for bipartisan action in Washington to avert the generational consequences of reckless fiscal policy.

“Our commission meetings and the Stewardship Series events are likely the only places where bipartisan discussion about the national debt is taking place, and we will continue that with our meeting on Tuesday,” said Wamp, who will convene the next Stewardship Series meeting next month in Wisconsin with state and federal officials.
