Resident Fellow, Cybersecurity and Emerging Threats

Haiman Wong brings a wealth of expertise to R Street, where her research focuses on the connection between cybersecurity and emerging technologies.

Previously, as a senior research associate at American University’s Internet Governance Lab, Haiman conducted research on private ordering, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy, and applied natural language processing (NLP) in collaboration with Oxford Information Labs and with support from the DNS Research Federation.

As a data scientist and cyber threat intelligence associate at Northern Trust, Haiman leveraged NLP techniques to transform over a million cybersecurity logs into actionable insights for enhanced and automated global cybersecurity incident response. She also advised executive leadership teams on emerging technologies and cyber threat activities to inform and shape the firm’s global cyber defense strategy.

Haiman is a doctoral candidate at Purdue University exploring the intersection of cybersecurity, emerging technologies, democratic information exchange, rhetoric, NLP, and technology leadership in innovation. She holds a master’s degree in data science with a cybersecurity concentration and a bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies (communications, legal institutions, economics, and government) from American University.

Haiman resides in the San Francisco Bay Area with her two Bichons, Cozy and Compass.
