Lightning Talk – Deploying AI For Cybersecurity: Benefits Beyond The Risks

Featuring

Brandon Pugh, Director, Cybersecurity and Emerging Threats, R Street Institute

Overview

Artificial Intelligence’s impact on cybersecurity is usually thought to be negative and require tight safeguards. While there are risks, the beneficial uses (current and future) are often overlooked, but remain a critical consideration for policymakers and practitioners alike.

The nexus between artificial intelligence and cybersecurity will be explored. This includes conveying how AI and cybersecurity is traditionally considered as a threat and risk, transition to how it can in fact be a benefit (historically, currently, and in the future), and how AI and cyber interact in the broader policy arena, including the White House EO, efforts by CISA, and efforts by Congress. Assessing this is imperative to avoid limiting AI’s potential to security as policy advances and as bad actors continue to leverage the technology. This is a critical area for State of the Net as they have a bipartisan working consisting of civil society, academia, industry, and the Hill.

This event is hosted by State of the Net 2024.
