WASHINGTON—Subcommittee on Cybersecurity, Information Technology, and Government Innovation Chairwoman Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) will hold a hearing titled “White House Overreach on AI. In December, the Subcommittee held a hearing covering how the Biden Administration’s executive order (EO) on artificial intelligence and subsequent OMB draft guidance tasks federal agencies with mitigating against the dangers of specific, high-risk AI use cases. This hearing will highlight the broad overreach and negative side-effects of the Biden Administration’s EO, such as threatening U.S. leadership in the AI field and the various life-enhancing and life-saving benefits AI innovation can bring.

“In our first hearing covering the Biden Administration’s policy on AI, we discussed how the executive order did not include sufficient input from industry and how failure to lead in the AI space will open the door for hostile actors to drive the technology into the future. This is a topic of paramount importance, and we must examine the negative aspects of the overreaching EO as we consider how the U.S. should lead in the AI space. I look forward to continuing our conversation on this topic with the expert witnesses appearing before the subcommittee,” said Subcommittee Chairwoman Mace.
