Casting Dr. Carla Hayden as a puppet of the tech industry or the library-industrial complex diminishes the obvious accomplishments that led her to become the first African-American and first female librarian of Congress. She was confirmed by a vote of 74-18, in spite of accusations from conservative groups that she was a “quota” pick.
