Internet governance and the free market
With the U.S. government set to relinquish its last vestiges of its control over the internet’s functions through the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA), R Street hosted a panel at its Washington headquarters featuring some leading experts on the political and technological implications of the transition, and what might happen if Congress seeks to delay it further. The panel was moderated by R Street Senior Fellow Mike Godwin and included Eli Dourado, research fellow and technology policy program director at the Mercatus Center; Fiona Alexander associate administrator for the National Telecommunications and Information Administration’s Office of International Affairs; Berin Szoka, president of TechFreedom; Christian Dawson, executive director of the Internet Infrastructure Coalition; and Brett Schaefer, Jay Kingham Fellow in International Regulatory Affairs at the Heritage Foundation.
