A bid to bar states from regulating AI is getting pushback

Among the experts who testified was Adam Thierer of the free-market think tank R Street Institute, who first proposed a “learning period” moratorium on AI regulations last year. He argued that it wouldn’t prevent states from addressing AI harms via laws that aren’t specific to the technology, such as broader civil rights and consumer protection laws.
