US Senate committee pitches AI law moratorium linked to state broadband funding
Adam Thierer, of the free market think tank R Street, had a different take, telling MLex that Cruz’s approach to the moratorium “probably makes it more palatable under the Byrd rule.”
A proponent of some form of preemption of state AI laws, Thierer said reconciliation is the realistic, if not preferable, route to achieve that. He would like to see Congress follow up with a federal framework for AI policy, perhaps codifying the recently rebranded Center for AI Standards and Innovation (see here).
“The general thrust of what both Commerce chairs want… is directionally aligned, even if specifics vary,” he said.
