WASHINGTON (Aug. 2, 2016) – The R Street Institute announced today it has added Sasha Moss as technology policy fellow. Sasha previously served as counsel to U.S. Rep. Blake Farenthold, R-Texas, and also had been R Street’s 2015 Google Fellow.

“We are delighted to add such an accomplished and capable member to our team of technology-policy experts,” R Street President Eli Lehrer said. “R Street has expanded significantly in our focus on the intersection between innovative technologies and the regulatory frameworks that frequently determine whether those technologies will be able to flourish. Sasha’s proven expertise will allow us to be even more effective as we continue to broaden our involvement in that sphere.”

Before joining Rep. Farenthold’s staff, Sasha assisted the government affairs team at Caterpillar Inc. on domestic patent policy; was a research assistant to Robert Brauneis of George Washington University School of Law; was a legal analyst with Curated Media; and a Luther Rice Fellow.

“I’m honored to be joining an organization that is so forward-thinking on technology policy,” Moss said. “R Street has been very active on issues ranging from music licensing issues to disruptive technologies, such as self-driving vehicles, ridesharing, and short-term rental services. Most Americans tend to think of those representing their interests in Washington, D.C. as being consistently behind the technological curve. I look forward to helping advance the conversation in a meaningful way.”

Sasha received her primary legal degree from the University of Glasgow School of Law and a master’s of law in intellectual property from the George Washington University School of Law. She also holds a master of letters in Victorian literature and a bachelor’s in English literature.

She has written on topics pertaining to music licensing, fair use, the “doctrine of equivalents” in Germany and England and the influence of British Victorian literature on American post-World War II politics.
