Clean Slate Pennsylvania, One Year On: 35 Million Cases Sealed by Automation

June 27, 2020 marked one year since Pennsylvania’s historic Clean Slate Act went into effect, making it the first state in the nation to clear criminal records using automation. In the year since, 35 million cases have now been sealed by automation, bringing much-needed relief to 1 million Pennsylvanians facing the long-lasting stigma of a record. Now states across the U.S. are following in Pennsylvania’s footsteps, with momentum for clean slate and other second chance policies picking up steam as lawmakers seek to promote a robust economic recovery and address growing calls to overhaul our broken criminal justice system.

Join Community Legal Services, the Clean Slate Initiative, and the Justice Action Network for an online event featuring Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf and state and national leaders, discussing Clean Slate Pennsylvania one year on, who’s been helped so far and the likely long-term impacts of the law, why record-clearing is more important than ever in the COVID era, and what’s next for criminal records reform in Pennsylvania and states across the country.

Featured speakers will include:

Governor Tom Wolf
Pennsylvania Sen. Camera Bartolotta
Pennsylvania House Minority Whip Jordan Harris
Pennsylvania Rep. Sheryl Delozier
David Price, AOPC
