From Detaly:

The police in the United States are becoming increasingly militarized. Police officers are not only equipped like soldiers – they are trained like soldiers. The same is also happening in Israel. I have visited your wonderful country. However, you have a different situation; you are under constant threat of terrorist attack. We have no such problem.

. . .

I was a policeman, both civilian, and military, when I served in the army. The problem is not a policemen’s military equipment or gear, but in military psychology. A soldier’s goal is to engage in battle with the enemy and destroy him, while the police’s task is completely different. The police must protect citizens. Due to this shift in mentality, the relationship between the police and civilians is catastrophically deteriorating.
