TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (March 7, 2013)  – Today representatives from StrongerSafer Florida expressed their enthusiasm after the state Senate Banking & Insurance Committee voted in favor of S.B. 7018.

Christian R. Cámara, Florida director, R Street Institute:

“Although still a work-in-progress, today’s unanimous passage of the Citizens Property Insurance reform package out of its first Senate committee is an important first step toward protecting taxpayers and the state’s economy. These commonsense reforms will help ensure that foreigners who own property in Florida will not continue to foist their risk onto the state’s taxpayers. This and other reforms in the bill will decrease the likelihood or severity of crushing assessments on all Floridians after a bad hurricane season.”

Manley Fuller, president, Florida Wildlife Federation

“On behalf of the Florida Wildlife Federation and the other conservation groups that are part of StrongerSafer Florida, we are thrilled that S.B. 7018 has been reported favorably by the Senate Banking & Insurance Committee. We sincerely appreciate the time and effort Chair David Simmons and the entire committee put into this important piece of legislation, and urge the rest of the Florida Legislature to support S.B. 7018. This bill is a necessary first step to discouraging reckless coastal development and artificially low premiums in the most hazardous areas of the state.”
