R Street Institute Welcomes John Bansemer as National Security and Cybersecurity Senior Fellow
WASHINGTON (Aug. 20, 2019) – The R Street Institute announced today that Lieutenant General John Bansemer, U.S.A.F. (ret.), will be joining our national security and cybersecurity team as a non-resident senior fellow. John joins R Street after a long and distinguished career in the United States Air Force, where he served in a variety of capacities. Most recently, he worked at the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI), where he served as assistant director of national intelligence for partner engagement. Previously, he served on the National Security Council staff and as the director of intelligence at the U.S. European Command.
“We are extremely honored and excited about the opportunity to work directly with John,” said R Street Director of National Security and Cybersecurity Jim Baker. “He has a wealth of knowledge and experience in a wide range of critical national security and cybersecurity matters—especially regarding intelligence and technology—gleaned from many years of military service. We look forward to drawing on his broad expertise to help us find real solutions to some of the most challenging policy issues society faces in this area.”
Bansemer’s work at R Street will focus on cyber and emerging technologies, especially artificial intelligence, and their national security implications.

Bansemer holds a master’s degree in computer science from James Madison University and he was a national defense fellow at Harvard University. He received his bachelor’s degree from Roanoke College.
