SELF-DRIVING CAR BRIEFING TODAY Consumer Technology Association President Gary Shapiro and former NHTSA Administrator David Strickland are slated to discuss the legislative landscape for self-driving cars during a briefing held by the R Street Institute today. Shapiro is expected to address the negative implications of some potential regulations, like pre-market approval of vehicles. “CTA cautions against suggestions such as pre-market approval, which would be a major increase in NHTSA authority, requiring NHTSA to approve every new model and model year vehicle before it comes to market,” said a CTA spokeswoman. “The pre-approval model, or something similar, could significantly slow the pace of innovation and bringing lifesaving technologies to market.”
