Internet industry pushes back against Rob Portman’s effort to change ‘decency’ act
“The balance under current law encourages online platforms to monitor and moderate their own services and user-generated content, but it does not hold them liable for failing to do so or for doing so imperfectly,” said a letter Thursday from 11 groups including the R Street Institute and FreedomWorks, who advocate for free markets.
“Expanding platforms’ liability for the behavior of their users would hurt, not help, trafficking victims,” the letter said.
