The FTC, which broke new ground last month by holding the CEO of liquor delivery app Drizly liable for his company’s alleged data security failures, is also likely to face questions from a Republican-controlled branch of Congress about whether its authority on cybersecurity issues should be narrowed, said Brandon Pugh, a policy counsel at the R Street Institute, a think tank in Washington, D.C.

“There will also be careful attention paid to weighing the need to increase cybersecurity with the impact on industry to prevent overly burdensome or duplicate measures,” Pugh added.
