WASHINGTON (Sept. 14, 2022)—Today, the R Street Institute welcomed Jeff Vanderslice as director of federal government affairs.

In this role, Vanderslice will spearhead R Street’s education and advocacy efforts to elected officials, policymakers and their staff in Washington, D.C., across Congress and at other federal agencies. He will also oversee R Street’s federal affairs team and their work on pragmatic, right-of-center public policy solutions.

“Jeff has been a consistent advocate for limited government and free markets throughout his career. But even more importantly, he’s demonstrated an ability to navigate an increasingly complicated political environment to advance meaningful policy reforms that will help all Americans,” said Sabrina Schaeffer, Vice President of Public Affairs at R Street. “I’m thrilled he is taking on this new leadership role at RSI and helping further strengthen our government affairs team.”

Vanderslice said, “R Street has built an impressive brand in the 10 years since its founding, which has allowed it to have a positive and outsized influence on numerous policy debates in a relatively short period of time. RSI’s commitment to both principle and impact is admirable, and its growth and dynamism has been exciting to watch. I look forward to contributing my energy, experiences and ideas to RSI as it looks to write its next chapter.”

Previously, Vanderslice was the director of government and external affairs at the Cato Institute. Before that, he spent a decade in a number of roles on Capitol Hill, working his way up from staff assistant and legislative correspondent to legislative director in the U.S. House of Representatives for a former member of Congress from California.

Vanderslice is also an adjunct lecturer focusing on political science at North Virginia Community College. He holds a master’s degree in government from Johns Hopkins University and a bachelor’s degree in political science from California State University, Fullerton.
