The R Street Institute applauds the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for moving forward with a proposed rulemaking to make it easier for manufacturers and retailers to deliver new and innovative devices into the hands of consumers.

“Technology moves faster than almost any other sector, and it is critical that our rules and regulations do not slow down innovation,” explained R Street Fellow for Technology and Innovation Policy Jeffrey Westling. “As the regulator of radiofrequency devices, the FCC must ensure that products operate as intended without causing harmful interference. But today, artificial restrictions on the importation and marketing of these devices make it difficult to gauge consumer interest and quickly get these products to market.”

As R Street explained in joint comments with Digital Liberty and Americans for Prosperity, the risks are minimal and drastically outweighed by the benefits consumers will receive.
