The R Street Institute believes that all people are created equal regardless of race, sex, ethnicity, creed, color, age, gender identity, sexual orientation, era of military service or relationship structure. Bigotry and hate are deplorable. We stand with our Black colleagues, partners, friends and allies, as well as all people in this nation who are treated differently based on the color of their skin.

We also believe in freedom, and that individuals should be free to pursue happiness on their own terms. But they cannot do so when governments use intimidation and violence to quell peaceful protests. R Street condemns the actions of any leaders in our country who seek to tear us apart and believes malicious destruction and violence are unacceptable.

We will continue to work with those who believe, like us, that we must reform our criminal justice system, law enforcement agencies, and place further checks on abuses of power by our governments.

We will continue to fight on behalf of the rule of law and the ideals upon which we were founded. There is no single solution. But, in order to work toward one, we must first acknowledge that the lives of people in our communities of color matter. Then, we must listen to those affected and marginalized and truly support what this country stands for: freedom for all.
