WASHINGTON (March 11) – The R Street Institute applauds the House of Representatives for the passage of H. Res 756, the Moving Our Democracy and Congressional Operations Towards Modernization Resolution.

Passed yesterday under suspension of the rules, H. Res 756 takes important steps to modernize Congress and strengthen the legislative branch by implementing 29 bipartisan recommendations from the Select Committee on the Modernization of Congress. The reforms include streamlining and reorganizing human resources, improving Member orientation and continuing education, modernizing Member office technology, increasing House accessibility and improving public access to documents.

Kevin Kosar, R Street’s Vice President of Research Partnerships, responded: “This is good news, and the media and all Americans should take note. Congress recognizes that it is behind times and it has begun the process of reform.”

The passage of H. Res 756 is a great first step toward modernizing the House of Representatives and better equipping Congress to carry out its constitutional role as the first branch of government. R Street encourages House lawmakers to build on these efforts and move quickly to enact additional recommendations from the Select Committee.
