Ernst Csiszar

Ernst Csiszar is an adjunct faculty member and special assistant to the dean for the Risk and Uncertainty Management Initiative at the University of South Carolina’s Moore School of Business and an associate fellow of the R Street Institute.

Ernie’s career in insurance encompasses the broadest possible range of experience, having served as an attorney, merchant banker, executive, regulator and academic. From 1993 to 1998, he was chief executive officer of Seibels Bruce Inc., a property/casualty insurance carrier then listed on the NASDAQ exchange. He was South Carolina’s director of insurance from 1999 to 2004, serving in 2004 as president of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners. He then served from 2004 to 2006 as president and CEO of the Property and Casualty Insurers Association of America.

In addition to his post at USC, where he teaches insurance and risk management, he is vice chairman of the Goldwater Taplin Group in West Palm Beach, Florida and is a member of the board of directors for a number of different public or private companies.

Ernie has degrees in mathematics, philosophy and law from the University of Windsor in Canada. He enjoys golf and sailing but, most of all, loves to spend time with Charlie, his beloved Westie; Rolfi, his rambunctious Airdale; and Choo-Choo and Henry, his protective Siamese cats.
