TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (May 13, 2014) – The R Street Institute praised Florida Gov. Rick Scott for signing H.B. 5061 yesterday, which creates a sales tax holiday for hurricane supplies.

The nine-day sales tax holiday begins May 31, and is meant for Floridians to purchase emergency items such as flashlights and batteries to be better prepared in the event of a hurricane.

“Gov. Scott and the Florida Legislature should be commended for not only recognizing the need for Floridians to be prepared for hurricane season, but for enacting some real relief to help all residents procure essential emergency supplies,” said R Street President Eli Lehrer. “With the season beginning on June 1, the time for residents to prepare is now.”
