In the coming year, Congress needs to evaluate current regulations that hinder the development of these technologies, thus paving the way for new innovations to succeed.

Revelations about the NSA’s expansive activities have ignited a national dialogue about the balance between individual privacy rights and national security interests. In addition, outdated privacy laws such as the Electronic Communications Privacy Act (ECPA) have given government agencies free rein to spy on ordinary Americans’ online communications without judicial review.
