Join R Street’s Lori Sanders for a panel on the government’s role in social norms
What should be the role of government in creating and influencing social norms? In recent years, the movement for so-called “libertarian paternalism” has taken off to incorporate social psychology and behavioral economics to shape a variety of norms, with the White House even going so far as to hire a “Nudge Czar.” Despite sneakily working the term “libertarian” into the name of their movement, the libertarian paternalists tend not to be so popular among self-described libertarians or conservatives, even though in many ways they share the goals of more efficient government and better designed incentives.
R Street Institute Outreach Manager Lori Sanders will moderate a panel to discuss these issues featuring Vikram Srinivasan, Jonathan Coppage of The American Conservative, Michael Strain of the American Enterprise Institute and Stephanie Rugolo of the Cato Institute. Hosted by the America’s Future Foundation, the event will be held Sept. 12 at the Fund for American Studies, 1706 New Hampshire Ave. NW in Washington, D.C. Doors open for a reception at 6:30 p.m. and then the panel will run from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
